well yes, there are retrospectives touring for a couple of years. perhaps
there have been breaks in between, but by and large it is the same
retrospective that was put together 5 years ago by the japan foundation.
since the retro targets an international audience, all films have english
subtitles. for this reason i doubt that the complete retro will be shown in
japan as well. occasionally there are screenings of subtitled japanese films
(e.g. at the japan foundation kyoto office), but in general are japanese
films in japan shown without subtitles.
