Ring & Honogurai Mizu No Soko Kara remakes

Sankei reported today that "Honogurai Mizu No Soko Kara", the new movie 
from "Ring" director Nakata Hideo and writer Suzuki Mitsuji, is to be 
remade by Disney's Buena Vista Pictures.  The film's producer, Kadokawa 
Shoten president Kadokawa Tsuguhiko announced that an offer was received 
last week and a contract is to be finalised soon.  Buena Vista will pay 
US$3,000,000 for the rights.  The cast has yet to be decided.  
Also, the American remake of "Ring" is currently scheduled to open in 200 
US theatres from August 9th, with Japan following in summer.  Kadokawa said 
he was delighted that this movie depicting modern Japanese life has been 
deemed to have international appeal, rather than a special effects movie 
such as Godzilla or a Kurosawa Akira-style period film.  
"Honogurai Mizu No Soko Kara" opened in Japan on January 19th, and has been 
chosen for the Panorama section of the Berlin International Film Festival, 
beginning on February 6th.
