Kikuchi Shu

This is somewhat belated news, but I was away from email while in 
Japan...where I learned of the death of Kikuchi Shu, an important 
cinematographer for documentary. Kikuchi started his career as an 
assistant to Ishimoto Tokichi in Indonesia during the war. After the 
war, he was Miki Shigeru's assistant during the photography for The 
Effects of the Atomic Bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. As director of 
cinematography, he worked on a number of films with Kamei Fumio. Last 
year, Kikuchi made what was probably his last public appearance at the 
Yamagata doc film fest's Kamei retrospective.
