Saeki Kiyoshi

The newspapers reported that the film director Saeki Kiyoshi died on the 
16th of cancer. He was 87. Saeki started out in the film business before 
the war at Chiezo Productions as an assistant to Itami Mansaku before 
going on to direct at Toho and Shintoho. He is most well-known for his 
work at Toei, where he was instrumental in developing Toei's brand of 
jidaigeki and later the ninkyo/yakuza film, especially through the Showa 
zankyoden series.
