Sankei Sports reported today that TV Asahi is producing a new horror series
in which each episode will be directed by a "famous" film director, in the
style of the recent Hama Mike series.
"Sky High" will be broadcast from January 17th on Friday nights, and stars
cheesecake model, tarento and wannabe actress Shaku Yumiko. Inevitably,
it's an adaptation of a popular manga series, written by Takahashi Tsutomu
and serialised in Shueisha"s Young Jump.
Shaku will play Izuko, a guardian of the "Gate of Hate", the first
otherworldly destination of the freshly murdered. Izuko gives the dead
three choices: to discard their hatred, ascend to heaven and be reborn; to
refuse to accept their death, and spectrally wander the living world; or to
seek revenge by cursing and killing a living being, and descend to hell.
The series will be episodical in nature, with famous actors guest-starring
as the spirits of the murdered. Directors include Kitamura Ryuhei
("Versus", and the upcoming ninja manga adaptation "Azumi" starring idol
Ueto Aya), Nakahara Shun ("Juuninin no Yasashii Nihonjin"(Twelve Gentle
Japanese), "Consent") and Tsuruta Norio ("Ring 0").
Shaku also appears in the upcoming "Godzilla vs. Mecha Godzilla", and made
her film debut in the recent Donnie Yen-choreographed sword action flick
"Princess Blade"(Shurayuki Hime).
