Ring remake

Thanks to Jeffrey for mentioning the program on The World.  Some of the
program's comments about changes in the film surprised me.  I did not sense
a lot of differences in the USA version of The Ring, especially in tone.  On
the contrary I found it to be, "dochi ka to iu to", very close to the
original.  Much of the U.S. version is very ambiguous, and I agree with
Jeffrey when he says the Japanese Ring seemed to be "tightly organized and
to adhere to Hollywood's rules for narrative clarity."  The unresolved,
frustrating ending is one of the things that made the original so
unsettling, and it's reproduced nearly to the letter in the American
version.  I thought they did a pretty good job!  Are the differences in this
case really so obtrusive, is this so clearly an issue of "rational" America
vs. "vague" Japan?  The article only mentions the Korean remake--what was
that like?

That said, I watched another U.S. version of a Japanese film
recently--Spirited Away--and the English script added a few lines that I
felt did make the story easier to understand and enjoy.
