I've been kind of late on the job news front, but here are two positions
KineJapan members may be interested in. The Bard position is, I assume,
replacing Michael Raine, who's going to Chicago, and the Kyoto job, while
it does not specifically mention film, was posted on the Society for
Cinema and Media Studies jobs list, so I assume they're also looking for
a film person. And don't forget the YNU job!

The Film and Electronic Arts Program at BARD COLLEGE is seeking to fill
a full-time tenure track position in Film and/or Video History and
Theory, with a specialty in Asian Cinema, preferably Japanese or
Chinese. A person filling the position would be expected to develop
film-related courses in the Asian Studies Program as well as more
broadly based courses on all levels within the Film and Electronic Arts
program itself. Assistant Professor Level, beginning in September of

The Graduate School for Human and Environmental Studies, KYOTO
UNIVERSITY, invites applications for a tenure-track position. The
research field of applicants should be interdisciplinary and should
focus on multicultural studies, for example comparative study of
cultures or the history of cultural relations.
Position Available: 1 associate professor
Kyoto University Graduate School for Human and Environmental Studies.
Department: Studies in Cultural Coexistence. Chair: Comparative Studies
of Civilizations.

Eligibility:
(a) Applicants should hold a Ph.D. degree or have an outstanding record
equivalent to a Ph.D. degree.
(b) Applicants should not be older than 44 years at the date of
appointment, i.d. April 1, 2004.
(c) There are no requirements regarding nationality. Applicants should
however have a sufficient working knowledge of the Japanese language.

Selection process:
Selection will be based on the submitted materials. As part of the
selection process interviews may be conducted. Travel expenses for the
attendance of interviews will be fully born by the applicants
Applicants should be recognized at the highest level by the Authorized
Inquiry Committee (Daigaku Secchi Shingikai) as being able to supervise
Ph.D. research (Qualified Ph.D. Supervisor and Lecturer). The decision
of appointment will be made in October or later, 2003 at the Assembly of
professors of the Graduate School for Human and Environmental Studies.
