the film promotion advisory board (eiga shinko ni kan suru kondankai) of the
agency for cultural affairs (bunkacho) presented today its interim report in
which it suggests 12 measurements to improve the condition of japanese film
and to stimulate the japanese film business. among the proposals are the
formation of a new graduate school (daigakuin) for film producers, the
creation of a film commission to smooth the way for a less bureaucratic
on-location-shooting, and the creation of the legal premises to make the
preservation of movies compulsory.
we will see what concrete steps the ministry will take to improve the
situation of japanese movies. the plans are ambitious, but the
implementation is linked to a multitude of problems, as aaron has pointed
out in regard to the national film center.
