It may or may not be necessary, but it's correct nonetheless. Dreamworks is doing the right thing, even though they are doing it for the wrong reasons.

  it seems rather unnecessary to put it out using this direct romanisation of the katakana when the original title is already pretty well known throughout every other territory in the world. Seems like a case of complete appropriation more than an attempt to bring Nakata's original to a broader audience.
