Hello everyone,
Mitsuhiro and Markus here. Every time we've convened Kinema Club, most
recently in Montreal at McGill, people have clamored for a Kinema Club
in Tokyo. We balked at the complexities of the idea, but are going to
give it a try. We are still in the midst of negotiations with a number
of institutions that will host it in one way or another. We are also
putting together an organizing committee of the best graduate students
at each of the major schools, people who can agitate at their home
campuses and assure a good turn-out on the Japan side. Markus has been
meeting many of the key professors around town to same end, since he's
in Tokyo now.
At this point, it is too early to give you many specifics. We can tell
you.....
----it will be held in a neutral space, not connected to a university
here.
----It will probably be Wednesday to Sunday
----the first day will be an optional tour of the Film Center, both
the cold storage in Sagamihara and the main outfit
Kyobashi. Hopefully, they'll show us some restorations they're proud
of.
----There will be other films shown, and if all goes well we'll have
filmmakers present as well. At this point,
I can tell you that one event will feature Oshii Mamoru with a Kinema
Clubber or two.
----If all goes as planned, there will be a couple days of
traditional, simultaneous panels, and then a couple
special events on the weekend.
If all goes as planned. We'll see.
Right now, we need to set the dates. We are looking at June 21 to 26.
Does anyone know any problems with this?
To be honest, it might be a moot point, as our host institutions may
not be able to budge. Still, we thought we'd ask. This is between Eizo
Gakkai and Cultural Typhoon. It'll be a busy June in Tokyo next summer.
Markus
