Viewership data for the Ghost in the Shell Series

Dear Kinejapan members,

I'm currently doing a undergrad paper on the various incarnations of 
major motoko in the Ghost in the Shell Series (including the original 
film, the tv-series and Innocence).

I've been looking around for information og material to help me 
establish the popularity of the shows as well as the gender-division of 
the viewers, but with no luck.

I am presuming that the Ghost in the Shell series primarily appeal to 
younger male viewers (and now perhaps older males who were fans of the 
original), but on the other hand I know that its not uncommon that manga 
or anime that seems to be targeted at one gender is also widely consumed 
by the other gender (i.e. yamanashi manga).

If You have any good starting point for me or actual information I could 
use (deadline is close, so I prefer electronic material) or if You just 
have some personal knowledge (or assumptions) that I could possibly use, 
please let me know.
