Toei Video, producers and distributors of Ishii Takashi's sexual torture
opus "Hana to Hebi," are to make available footage cut from the film by
censors via a pay-per-view website.

The sixth film adaptation of the book by Dan Oniroku, "Hana to Hebi" stars
Sugimoto Aya and features copious nudity, S&M, bondage and more. Japanese
censorship organisation Eirin demanded that several small cuts be made to
the film due to its many scenes containing full-frontal nudity and exposure
of pubic hair, and subsequently gave the pared-down version an R18 rating.

Claiming that the censorship detracts from Sugimoto's brave performance and
Ishii's trademark long takes, Toei Video have taken the unprecedented step
of releasing extra footage on a special website, including the scenes
deemed unsuitable by Eirin.

"This is a first for the industry," said a spokesman for Toei Video. "We're
very nervous to see how users will respond, and how the watchdogs who
monitor indecent imagery on the internet will react." The first webcasts
begin on March 1st, and new material will be added every month through to
June.

"Hana to Hebi" opens in Japan on March 1st.
