Next week is a poorly publicized Yamagata Doc Film Fest "play event"
meant to foreshadow the usual "Yamagata in Tokyo" screenings in the
fall. Next week they'll be showing Hertz Frank's 10 Minutes Older and
Xiao Chin's Issho no toki. (those are transliterations from katakana
there.) And I'm giving a little talk about the "musicality of
Newsreel."

But the real show is Oe Masanori's GREAT SOCIETY. This is a 1967 film
by Oe, who was among the founders of the New York Newsreel collective.
This film attempts to capture "1967" on six screens. Just watching them
cue 6 projectors simultaneously is something of a show. The film/event
was one of the highlights of Yamagata last year. Perhaps someone that
went to one of the screenings could describe it? Oe will be there to
talk after the film.
