Tsutomu or Takeshi (E+J)

Thanks for the quick answers. Most of my reference books are back in
the States so I was relying on internet sources for the time being.

As many of us know, name readings in Japanese can be a real pain.
Tsutomu and Takeshi are both legitimate readings of that characters
(the Diet Library lists quite a number of people with both readings),
so you need some authoritative source--usually one that has confirmed
it with the person--to rely on. Unfortunately, for us film people,
KineJun makes mistakes (the recent Kantoku Zenshu has Suwa Nobuhiro as
Suwa Atsuhiko, for instance) and the web database is not reliable. The
Diet Library is the most authoritative source, but that only covers
people who have authored singlular materials housed in libraries (it
won't help you with names of cinematographers and editors, or even
authors of articles unless they've written a book). There are a lot of
other sources you can use, but it takes a lot of time. But given how
many sources use Tamura Takeshi, we can see how there are a lot of
people out there who don't take that time.

Thanks again.
