Hi,

It seems my previous posting on Iron Chef did not go through, so I am
posting it again.

As for Oshima's appearance in Iron Chef, I think they were broadcasted
in Japan for a long time ago. According to "Ry_ori no tetsujin taizen"
(Tokyo: Fus_osha, 2000) and if I count correctly, Oshima appeared at
least nine matches.

94th (8/25/95): Takemasa Yoshiko vs. Chin
103th (10/20/95): Hayashi Kunbi vs. Michiba
104th (10/27/95): Hayashi Kunbi vs. Michiba
106th (11/10/95): Ikegawa Kiyotaka vs. Chin
113th (1/3/96): Michiba vs. Chin
114th (1/12/96): ? vs. Chin
116th (1/26/96): Yamanobe Hiroshi vs. Chin
119th (2/16/96): Tateyama Jinichi vs. Sakai
122th (3/8/96): Yoshida Tatsujiro vs. Chin

Weekly Iron Chef program ended on September 1999, but Oshima's
appearance was limited in this period.

oshima's condition still seems to be bad. in february 1996 he had a
cerebral
hemorrhage while in london (but not for the festival). oshima never
fully
recovered, but could finished his last film GOHATTO after the shooting
schedule was delayed for several months. in 2001 he underwent surgery
after
a duodenal ulcer was diagnosed. a friend of mine who has met him early
this
year told me that his right arm is still paralysed, that he can't walk
and
and has difficulties to speak. his wife, koyama akiko, and several home
helpers are talking care of him.
as for the iron chef program, the program was terminated in 1999, so it
must
have been a re-broadcasting. i remember that oshima was a jury member
around
1995 before his stroke.
