Nozawa's apparent suicide is all over the news this morning, but there were
a couple of other items of interest:

Fuji TV have announced that their first foray into feature animation will
be an adaptation of Miyabe Miyuki's fantasy novel "Brave Story."Set for an
international release in 2006, the billion-yen film will be directed by
Chiaki Koichi, animated by Gonzo Animation, and distributed by Buena Vista
International Japan. Apparently this is Fuji's way of keeping up with
rivals Nihon TV, who have been partners in Ghibli's works for several
years.

Meanwhile, Tokyo International Film Festival general producer Kadokawa
Tsuguhiko has announced the creation of the Kurosawa Akira Award, which
will be given to directors and producers who have made waves
internationally. The award includes prize money of $10,000 (1,070,000 yen),
which is the same amount given to the Grand Prix winner. This year's
festival will be held from October 23rd to 31st at two venues, Shibuya's
Bunkamura and Virgin Cinemas Roppongi Hills, and the latter will host the
opening ceremony.
