Ozu's Tokyo Monogatari

Does anyone know why Yasujiro Ozu's "Tokyo Monogatari" is his most famous
film (although many Japanese have not seen the film they know the title).
Does it have a story that appeals to the majority of Japanese People, or did
the actors and actresses give an outstanding performance? What do you
believe?
