The news services reported that Kadokawa Haruki, the producer and film 
director who was sentenced to prison for possession of cocaine, was 
recently released. Kadokawa, who as president of Kadokawa Publications 
created a storm in the 1970s and 1980s with his bold blockbuster movies 
and media-mix sales campaigns, also directed a number of his films and 
helped spark the careers of many stars and directors like Somai Shinji 
and Sai Yoichi. Kadokawa's brother became president of the company 
after Haruki's arrest and has continued the company's aggressive 
pursuit of film production, recently buying Daiei. The news services 
reported that Haruki is still interested in producing films and has 
already begun visiting the presidents of major film companies to create 
some deals.
