All the ones I've been to seemed to be filled (or partially filled) with 
people holding a genuine interest.  There are plenty of theaters that 
show things like pink films all night for folks to stay in. There were 
about 20-30 folks for the Wakamatsu showing but it was a very small 
theater. I've been to some that were even less attended, though...
