Ishii Teruo has died...

That's sad news. I just glanced over some of the articles over the 
controversial Tokugawa irezumishi today.

Ishii, of course, was not just known for the Abashiri bangaichi series, 
but first for some of the better ero guro stuff and the Space Giants 
series at Shintoho (the latter is available in the US on DVD as 
Starman), and then for sensationally violent eroticism in the early 
1970s films like Tokugawa irezumishi. In his final years, he did some 
very good adaptations of Tsuge Yoshiharu's manga. A truly interesting 
character who will be missed.
