but the same problem goes with R1 dvds. not many use the japanese discs as master, which is obviously the best possible source. for example ARTSMAGIC's BIRDPEOPLE OF CHINA. 
i simply dont see the point in mastering a DVD which will look worse that the R2 version... and its much more expensive. 

It would be interesting to get a reply from a DVD company on that one!
