Self-introduction

Dear KineJapan members,
 
As suggested by the welcome mail I received after signing into this mailing
list, I would like to introduce myself a bit. Please, forgive me my bad
English, but I'm feeling quite exhausted because of flue and my brain is
somewhat jammed!
 
I have recently enrolled in the Ph.D. School of Media and Communication
Studies at the University of Geneva, Switzerland, and my thesis project just
got officially accepted in December. It deals with the international spread
of movies and TV series on DVD and the role of this technology in the
intercultural process of reception of these productions by various publics.
My case-study will be the reception of DVD of Japanese animation by various
European publics. Although I know that my subject deals primarly with animes
and that there are mailing lists entirely devoted to this topic (of which
I'm already a member), I have decided to register with this one because I'm
thinking on expanding my research interests from anime to the larger field
of audiovisual culture in Japan and its exportation worldwide. Thus, I think
that I could very much benefit from the experiences and works led by the
members of this list, while I hope to be able to contribute to the
discussions going on in this online community. My background is mostly in
cultural anthropology, sociology of communication and SST (Society,
Technology and Sciences). But I have also a foot in science (I have studied
biology in college for two years and a half) and a strong interest in
scientific communication. I have also touched a bit on poli-sci and
political communication.
 
Anyway, I'm very much looking forwards to getting to know you all and I hope
we'll have very enlightening and insightful discussions on various topics
related to Japanese cinema and moving images!
