The 50. anniversary of Mizoguchi's death also brings a series of DVD releases. Mizoguchi was so far very underrepresented in Japan as far as DVDs are concerned. The only film currently available on DVD in Japan is Aienkyo, released last year by Junes.
The following releases are planned:
"Yuki fujin ezu" by Kinokuniya (August)
"Musashino fujin" and "Saikaku ichidai onna" by Toho (September)
"Mizoguchi Kenji Daiei sakuhinshu Vol. 1" by Kadokawa-Herald (October) including "Oyusama", "Ugetsu monogatari", "Gion bayashi", "Sansho dayu" and "Uwasa no onna"
"Mizoguchi Kenji Daiei sakuhinshu Vol. 2" by Kadokawa-Herald (December) including "Chikamatsu monogatari", "Yokihi", "Shin Heike monogatari" and "Akasen chitai".
Needless to say that none of the DVDs will have english subtitles.

Betreff: Amazing-looking Mizoguchi event
There's an event on Mizoguchi this month I'd love to go to. With some
biggies behind it (Kadokawa, Asahi, Film Center, JF), they've put
together an impressive line-up of people. The list includes critics
like Abe, Hasumi, Yamane----actors like Kagawa, Wakao----directors
Yanagimachi, Erice, ----etc. etc. etc. A couple films, too.
