I bought Koshikei and a few of the other Japanese Oshima DVDs that were
released several years ago. I think they're out of print now, and they
weren't released in rental versions, but they're not too hard to find. (Stay
away from Amazon.jp though--they're selling two used copies of the Koshikei
DVD, one for 9800 yen and the other for 19800 yen.

Brian, if you have trouble finding Koshikei in the U.S. contact me off list
. .
I'm not sure if Tsuki wa docchi ni deteiru is out on DVD or not, although I
have seen VHS copies for sale and rental in Tokyo.
You might want to take a look at issue 26 of the Yamagata Film Festival's
publication Documentary Box. It has a long interview with Oh Deok-soo in
which the director talks about his experiences working with Oshima, his
reaction to "Tsuki" and "Go" and his ideas on zainichi issues in Japanese
film and history. Oh's epic documentary "Zainichi" is probably something you
should not miss as well.

Oh visited Meiji Gakuin University to present at the Nihon Eiga Kenkyukai a
few weeks ago. I was really looking forward to it but the room changed and
frustratingly enough I wasn't able to find the new location . . . Did anyone
else on the list attend? How was it?
Also, as Aaron Gerow mentioned, last year's (2005) YIDFF featured a special
program on zainichi that included dozens of rare and notable films. Copies
of the zainichi program catalog should still be available through the
Yamagata office. A list of films shown is available on the site in English:

and Japanese:
