Kumakiri's Filmography

I've seen his two latest efforts at the IFFR.

Green Mind Metal Bats is taken from a manga, and it's a very low-key account of the problems of growing and youth nowadays. Kumakiri has nothing to do with the world of manga, and it shows: but this is somewhat interesting and successful in his rendition of a reality in which there's no capability to overcome its "greyness" and to fulfill one's passion/love (specifically, baseball: but, take note, it's not a sport-movie). But the ending has the courage to be with a smile and a little hope, and it's beautiful. Wakamatsu Koji is among the cast, with Terajima Susumu and the superb Ando Masanobu.

The Volatile Woman is one of the six films from six different directors in the "Love and Eros" DV series.
Only two characters, a woman (Ishii Mitsuko) at a petrol station and a man on the run (Sawada Shunsuke), a house, a strange relationship between them. It's a little, very little thing, a drama, sometimes moving, sometimes precise and deep. And the leads are wonderful.

Ciao.
