I think that KineJapan should not be adverse to political discussions when
they concern film and they presence of the US military in South Korea is a
debatable topic. Having said that, to me it is pretty clear that Mr Petri's
post is rife with inaccuracies if not downright absurdities.

I doubt anyone, from servicemen/women to commanders, would claim the US Army
is "home" in South Korea. And to compare civilian South Koreans in the US to
a US military presence is SK is absurd, clearly they play completely
different socio-politcal roles.

In any case, what I really want to mention is that the issue of Japanese
abductess which Mr. Petri alludes to is now addressed in a Jane
Campion-produced, Japanese language, documentary called Abduction: The
Megumi Yokota story, which will open next week in Japan. I thought it was
superbly made and extremely powerful.
