What the heck was the title?

Seems like a theme that has always existed, and of course, even young people
basically believe in this way of thinking (they just don't want the logical
consequences of it). I was thinking about "Kike Wadatsumi no Koe" because,
at a recent symposium, a German scholar of modernist and fascist era film
was talking about the plot structure where a hero sacrifices himself to
bring about a new utopian order. Seems like a pretty common theme in Japan!
But in the case I was thinking about, ironically, the utopian role is taken
by contemporary Japan, which is hardly what the Tokkotai were trying to
bring about. Anyway, far from a great film (as are all of this genre?) its
inconsistencies are more revealing than its intentions. And I only saw it
once, and that on TV.

This is becoming a whole "hey sports, it's back to the war for you" genre.
There was a program on TBS the other night called Bokutachi no sensou about
a contemporary freeter surfer dude who suddenly finds himself in the
Tokkoutai. Somebody's idea of the good old days?
