I wonder if this special screening / restoration might finally lead to a DVD
release. Its always amazed me how this was never available (grey market
aside) on video/dvd in Japan, and there was clearly good reasons why no one
like Criterion had put it out, given the films reputation and historical
importance.
This just played in Bristol about a fortnight ago, along with a live
accompaniment from some crazy jazz drummer and preceded by a screening of
Serene Velocity. I'm not sure if my wife has forgiven me for dragging her
along to the event yet, but hell, I enjoyed it!

> As a special event to mark the Tokyo meeting of FIAF (Fédération

Shinbun (Asahi News) are sponsoring a special screening of a newly restored
A Page of Madness. The event will take place at Asahi Yuraku-cho Hall on
Sunday 8 April, 2007 at 19:30. (All seats reserved.) This new restoration is
similar to the print currently in circulation; both derive from a print of
the film found in Kinugasa's house in 1971, a print that is believed to be a
shortened version of the 1926 original. This new restoration, however,
returns the film to the original aspect ratio common in the "silent" era,
