Japan Foundation is gearing up for another film series (all with
English subs). Kyoko Hirano will also be giving a lecture (her bio
notes a new book, I might add, entitled Manhattan no Kurosawa).

The Japan Foundation will be screening classic Japanese films
with English subtitles from May 25 to May 27 in Akasaka, Tokyo.
Since 2004, the Japan Foundation has organized seven successful
film events providing foreign residents of Japan with the
opportunity to experience the wealth of Japanese cinema through
subtitled films. As the eighth event, it is presenting
"Rediscovery of Japanese Cinema" at Akasaka Kumin Center Hall.
Six masterpieces will be shown that enjoy critical
acclaim overseas. There will also be a lecture by Dr. Kyoko Hirano,
former film coordinator at the Japan Society in New York and
author of "Mr. Smith Goes to Tokyo: Japanese Cinema Under
the American Occupation, 1945-1952," who will share her experiences
in presenting Japanese cinema overseas.
