Has anyone else noted that this director of chanbara died on December 20th? I actually haven't seen all that many of his films, so won't endeavour to write an appreciation of him myself - could someone more familiar with his oeuvre than I am do the honours?

           Ah, thanks Aaron,
And I see now I could have got it on Mark's method of googling NAME site: cinema.intercritique.com, but I hadn't realised I could have used a Japanese name in 'NAME'. Well, anyway, I got the 'Ō' right :>()

KineJun gives the name as Ôkubo Tadamoto. He was mostly a director
during the silent age (known most for having Ozu and Saito Torajiro
work under him) and later become a studio executive. Kishi Matsuo has
a long entry on him in the 1976 KineJun Nihon eiga kantoku zenshu.
