reputation of Ringu series

Hello all.

Can anyone please let me know what the current reputation of the Japanese 
Ringu series of productions in in Japan and Western if possible, as my 
thesis is aiming to revaluate this reputation, believe the Ringu series to 
be significant in changes to japanese, korean and hollywood cinema.
