I would like to forward the information given by Tokyo Gakugei
University on a film of Izumi Etsuko. (Brief translation is mine.)

Haraguchi is the first Japanese female psychologist who got a
Doctor's degree from Columbia University 100 years ago.  

Izumi worked for the administration and several enterprises as a
screenwriter and a producer before she started directing her films. 
Her first film is on New York and Japanese women living there.
