Great to read your Yamagata reports Mark - I so wish I could be there! I've been off-list for a while, as my old hpo.net email address no longer seems to be valid. I wonder if I missed any interesting discussions in the past week or so?.
I've just returned home from a gruelling week at Raindance Festival, which suffered from less attendences than I'd have hoped, but all in all I cant complain. I didnt see so many London-based Kinejapanners there. Maybe next year!!!
Just as a quick note, although sadly a bit too late, but Kazuhiro Sano's documentary Campaign miraculously screened on BBC4 in the UK last year in a slimmed down 52-minute version entitled The Kawasaki Candidate, as part of the Why Documentary? season the channel are currently running. (see www.whydemocracy.net/home)
In many ways, I think it benefited from being aired in a truncated audience - I'm still mindful of a media friend I know waving his hand around the Huntsman Pub in Bath at 1am on a sunday morning at a bunch of guys with football shirts and pints of carslberg, and saying "You should stop being so idealistic Jasper, this is your typical British tv audience!" In this respect, it is amazing it aired at all, but lets hope this marks the beginning of a more adventurous period in TV programming for the Beeb.
Best
Jasper
