new "youth film'?

The phrase "gentle youth" reminds me of the Sekai no chushin de
franchise (Yukisada Isao directed the 2004 film). The film's wikipedia
entry (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socrates_in_Love) places it within
the "pure love boom", and again flags the influence of the Korean
wave, this time TV shows like Winter Sonata.
From what I remember, Sekai no chushin's nostalgic flashback
structure (not to mention weepy, chaste storyline) make it very
different in tone to the films you list. Although it eulogises youth,
it perhaps isn't particularly aimed at a youth audience (if that's a
requirement of a youth genre), so I hope I'm not just muddying the
waters!
