Yasukuni reactions

I asked several of the filmmakers present at Nippon Connection what they thought of Yasukuni (as I wrote earlier, we scheduled an unplanned early morning screening due to many requests from the filmmaker guests, who were worried they wouldn't be able to see the film in Japan). Overall the reaction was not exactly very strong. A very few said they very much wanted this film to be seen by as many Japanese as possible, but the greater part (with a generational bias towards the younger ones, among them a few very well known names) were a lot more subdued. The general comments here were along the lines of "This is what all the fuss is about? It's nothing new, provocative, exciting, and not even very interesting as a film. Just sort of ok to watch."

This is a VERY general summary- and everyone agreed that the theaters shouldn't have pulled out of screening the film; but there seemed to be an air of mild disappointment after the screening, and as far as I could tell the film wasn't discussed a lot afterwards.
