Nippon Academy-sh? announced its annual Japanese Academy awards last  
friday. Details here:

"Letters from Iwo Jima" took the prize as the "Outstanding Foreign  
Language Film" of the year.

Since they don't have a category for films by foreign directors, I  
suppose it makes sense, but I was still amused by this, considering  
that the original texts, screenwriter, principals, and dialogue were  
all Japanese.
