I also got Aaron's new book -- and have now finished
it.

All I can say is "Great work, Aaron!"

I think this is (or should be) an indispensable book
for anyone interested in Kitano's work. When starting
out with Kitano's work. I always felt more than a
little context-ignorant. This book does a wonderful
job of putting Kitano and his work into an array of
contextual frames. Kitano seems to me a bit like a
juggler, often keeping what looks like a few too many
balls in the air at once (reminds me a bit of W.C.
Fields). Aaron's book helps me keep better track of
most of those balls in the air. I have a few points
to debate on the ending of Sonatine and the sources of
Kikujiro -- but one can't always get _everything_ one
wants.  ;~}

Now as to the lecture ....

Here's what I find in my Japan Society of Boston
newsletter:

Friday, February 22, 4:00 to 5:30pm, LECTURE:
Negotiating Cinematic Modernity in Japan: Multiple
Versions of "A Page of Madness". With Aaron Gerow,
Assistant Professor of Japanese Cinema, Yale
University. At Harvard University, CGIS South Bldg, Rm
S250, 1730 Cambridge St., Cambridge. For details, call
the Reischauer Institute at Harvard at (617) 495-3220.

I expect to show up for this. Anyone else around (in
nearby New England) who might attend?
