contemporary Japanese woman directors

Hi all,

I'm preparing a class on gender and global cinema, and would love to 
include a couple of post 1970s Japanese (diasporic, co-production) films 
that are preferably by a woman, about women, and for women, or by a 
woman and explicitly deal with gender issues. 

Instead of striking out on my own wild-goose hunt, I turn to the list 
for suggestions.  If you could include the films titles and potentially 
useful readings, that would be all the better.
