RE: Yoshida Kijû retrospective in Paris

I certainly do! When I was researching my book, Eros plus Massacre, in
Japan in the summer of 1984, his films were a real revelation; not to
mention that I stole my book’s title from his film. He was also extremely
kind and generous in interviews and, later, just socializing. His early
works are a wonderful blend of Classicism and Modernism and his later films
of the 60s really tackle the Japanese political culture of the 20th century.

Sounds wonderful! It looks like I shall be in Japan again at least for most
of that period - otherwise I'd definitely pop over to catch some rare
Yoshida. He is certainly my personal favourite of the Japanese New Wave
directors. I wonder if anyone else on this list agrees with my judgement?

Dear Kinejapaners,

This is an unofficial announcement for the Yoshida Kijû retrospective
in Paris Pompidou Center next spring, from the 26th of March to the
19th of may.
This retrospective should be the first one out of Japan to show such a
bunch of work from this movie director (please let me know if I am
mistaking) = all of the feature films, + a selection of documentaries.
A proper internet link and page should be up very soon, but I wanted
to tell everyone the program in advance (projection schedule is not
complete yet).
I guess that Paris is rather far for many of you, but if you are
interested or by chance in France at that time, you are welcome !
