Greetings KineJapan,
I work on silent-era Hollywood, not Japanese cinema, but I could use a
bit of help and a friend suggested I ask here. In brief: I'm writing a
chapter on serial queens for a volume on stars of the 1910s. I will
focus on Pearl White and Grace Cunard, and I'm trying to do justice to
their global circulation. From Joanne Bernardi's book (thanks Joanne
if you're out there), and from an item in Universal's house organ, I
know that _Katsud? no sekai_ published a special section on Cunard in
its September, 1916 issue. I have obtained a copy. I'm hoping that
this material might prove sufficiently interesting to inspire someone
to translate. For my immediate purposes, I would mainly need a summary
of the discussion, with perhaps a more precise translation of a
passage or two. The section runs a total of 16 pages, which I would
happily transmit via .pdf. In addition to public acknowledgement and
eternal gratitude, I could pledge some research time. I'll be in Los
Angeles next week at the Herrick Library, for what it's worth.
All best wishes,
Mark
