Self-Introduction

[Cathy Hotes]

 I am new to the KineJapan listserv.  My name is Cathy Munroe Hotes.  I
recently moved to Giessen, Germany from Tokyo (where I taught a graduate
course on the relationship between Japanese and Western Cinema at Kanagawa
Uni) and am currently an independent scholar.   My research interests are
the relationship between cinema and poetry.  I did my undergraduate and
master's degrees in Canada followed by a PhD at Exeter (UK) on the influence
of cinema on the poetry of American poet Adrienne Rich.  I am currently
working on a project about contemporary Japanese art/experimental animation
(animation as art or as poetic film).  I am particularly interested in the
work of Tomoyasu Murata, Koji Yamamura, Tabaimo, Mike Seike, and Kei
Oyama.   In my spare time I keep a blog on Japanese film at
