Greetings.
My name is Reinaldo Uribe M, from Colombia. I hold an MA in Film and
TV Studies from Dublin City Uniersity. I currently reside in Oita,
Japan, in a different capacity (as Visiting Research Student for one
year for my PhD in Electronic Engineering).
Back in Colombia I used to write a blog called Alma Provinciana,
discussing issues related to Colombian Cinema with an emphasis in Film
Finance and a rather academic tone/perspective. That blog is, however,
on hold while I am abroad.
I am beyond the Kurosawa/Miyazaki stage, but far from having even a
purely canonical knowledge of Japanese Cinema. I intend to build a
collection as broad as possible of Japanese Films in DVD but there are
several (I suppose commonly faced) drawbacks: my grasp of the language
is very limited, not all releases come with English subtitles, new
issue DVDs range between expensive and very expensive, I live on a
student's budget, etc.
Mainly, though, with about 400 new movies being made per year and such
a rich history, it's very easy for a neofite like me to get lost.
Therefore, I have set out to produce a "master wishlist" of a couple
hundred titles and a couple dozen directors whose work is available
here or in Hong Kong/European/American releases. So mi purpose on
joining the list is, at least initially, to browse the archives and
politely watch the discussions from the distance, as part of my
"study," looking for what (or whose) movies I may be interested in.
I m very pleased to have joined the list and look forward to using it
to build an appropriate knowledge of $BF|K\1G2h(B.
Regards
Reinaldo Uribe
