Lecturer in Japanese Studies, specialism in Cinema and Manga
School of Arts and Humanities
(Part-time .5fte)

Starting salary: pro-rata to ï¿¡31,514, rising annually to ï¿¡34,435

This is a fixed-term appointment from 1 September 2009 to 30 June 2010  
to cover maternity leave.

You will be responsible for:

researching and publishing at a level commensurate with entry in the  
Brookes submission to the REF
attracting external funding to support personal research
contributing to curriculum development in Japanese studies
teaching and assessing an advanced module on Japanese cinema and one  
on Manga
contributing to the administration of the undergraduate programme,  
including the year-abroad programme
You should have:

an active and ongoing programme of research appropriate for entry in  
the Brookes submission to the REF
the ability to make a contribution to the research culture of the school
an ability to secure external funding for personal research
research and teaching expertise in Japanese cinema
a PhD or equivalent in Japanese cinema or a closely-related discipline
experience of teaching and researching in higher education
an interest in innovative learning and teaching methods, including e- 
learning (would be an advantage)

teaching students as required using appropriate instruction methods,  
including e-learning
marking, assessing and invigilating students’ work and undertaking  
pastoral care activities as necessary
participating in the university’s administrative processes including  
quality assurance procedures, recruitment and admission of students
participating in general staff development and appraisal processes
producing and amending course materials and content as required
contributing to the delivery and promotion of short language courses  
as CPD
You should have:

native or near-native Japanese language skills
teaching expertise in Japanese, including experience of marking,  
assessing and invigilating students’ work
experience of producing and amending course material and content
the ability to contribute to curriculum development, including the  
delivery and promotion of short language courses
effective written and verbal communication skills
