Fwd: Information re donation of English Books on Japan

I forward this less to inform people about the project but to note
how one institution is defining the field of knowledge about Japan.
You can take a look at their 100 books and see that there are two
film books: Mark's Contemporary Japanese Film and Tom and Jasper's
Midnight Eye Guide to New Japanese Film. Great news to them, but as
with all such "canons" it is interesting to ask why these books and
not others (or why not more film books?). Nothing by Richie or on
famous directors like Kurosawa or Ozu.
Just a thought.
