Sorry I can't answer your question, but I'm interested in your research. I 
think tha japanese wer really interested in Christianity long time before 
WWII.Kamei Fumio was christian, you can find a puzzling shot in Mizoguchi's 
Women in the night (1948), in Teshigahara's Woman in the dunes (1964), and 
some important scenes in Teshigahara's Gohime (1992)
