My understanding is that it is the 1963 Umetsugu Inoue-directed version. 

Alexander Payne must be a fan, as he is doing Telluride's carte blanche 
this year. Always an interesting selection in this sidebar. Sadly, this is 
maybe because it is more often programmed by novelists than film-makers 
(?); but this year Payne has selected a range of other unexpected things, 
like de Toth's DAY OF THE OUTLAW and Luis Garcia Berlanga's Franco-era EL 
VERDUGO.

Daisan no Kagemusha






Telluride just announced their lineup and it includes a Japanese film 
called Dai-san no kagemusha. Is this the Raizo film, or is there a recent 
remake?
