'City of Life and Death'

Dear Kinejapaners,
In the May edition of 'Sight and Sound', there's a review of LU Chuan's 'City of Life and Death' [or 'Nanjing! Nanjing!] by Tony Rayns [I briefly mentioned it in a report from the LondonFF].  Tony Rayns says 'Extraordinary battles have been waged around the film in China (and more are going on right now in Japan).'

Can anyone report on those battles?
(And has anyone in Japan picked up the comparison to the prime-time screening of 'Katyn' in Russia - in however tragic circumstances.)
