Death by Hanging in Screen

Hello.

I am writing a dissertation chapter on Oshima's Death by Hanging (Koshikei
1968) in relation to the
"nisei mondai" of zainichi Koreans.

I am fascinated by the fact that Stephen Heath places such importance on the
film in his two articles "Narrative Space"
and "Anata mo" (both in Screen, 1976).
Although there is, for a brief period, some discussions between Heath and
Colin MacCabe on Death by Hanging, this
only lasts for a couple of issues.
*Does anyone know if there was a major Oshima retrospective in England or
around that prompted scholars to write about
Death by Hanging all of a sudden after 8 years from its release in Japan
(and the Marche du Film at 1968 Cannes).*

Thank you and best wishes for the holiday season.

Shota
