Dear list,

if you happen to spend the coming Advent weekend in Vienna, I’d like to invite you to a symposium on December 4th at the Institute of East Asian Studies of Vienna University about “Transitions in Japanese screen practice in late 19th and early 20th century”. Beside the presentations there will be a magic lantern demonstration and a screening of the extant version of Kaitô Samimaro (1928), which was the first Japanese feature film that was released in Vienna 80 years ago.
