Athénée Français Cultural Center has just started a series built on the film collection of the Japan Foundation. They invited three foreign scholars/programmers, Chris Fujiwara, Roland Domenig, and Aaron Gerow—all members of KineJapan—to choose three films and issue comments on them. Kawase Naomi is also showing a new version of Firefly and appearing to talk about th efilm.

The English title of the series is "To Each His Own Japanese Cinema," and the gendered language implies that this is simply about the Japanese cinema these three men love. The Japanese is Sekai no naka no Nihon eiga, which doesn't really seem to describe the program either. Can we assume this event has some connection to the recent political firestorm around the Japan Foundation? If it doesn't the website surely doesn't spin it for us.
